Loyal Heights

Nestled in the middle of Ballard is the Loyal Heights residential area. Poking around among the adorable homes here makes it easy to see why residents here would be loyal to their sweet neighborhood. The area is situated above NW 65th Street, well north of Ballard's primary commercial district. The shores of Puget Sound and 15th Avenue NW define its western and eastern boundaries, and the former city limits at NW 85th Street define its northern extension. Nearly all of the residences here are homes that were built before the 1960s, which only adds to the old-school charm of this neighborhood.

Life seems to slow down when you enter Loyal Heights. Away from the organized chaos of Ballard, it’s easy to relax and enjoy the view of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. Yet, because of its location, you don’t feel disconnected from the city, either. The area around 15th Avenue is the busiest, and as you head west and down toward the water, things get more and more calm.

The people who live here seem to be willing to add a few minutes to their commute time in exchange for the secluded lifestyle. According to Zillow, most residents earn an impressive income and have used it to buy a place of their own (about two-thirds own, and the other third rent). In general, there are fewer single folks here than in Ballard as a whole. The population of kids is higher, too.
